After you’ve entered a room, you are listed as an observer in the chat room. You can see the messages being sent, but you can’t write any messages yourself.
If you decide to join the conversation, enter your nickname at the bottom of the window, then click Start chatting!
Once you’ve chosen your nickname, you’re ready to start chatting!
If you are signed in as a registered Lingr user, your nickname will be automatically set, and you can jump directly into the conversation.
Once you start chatting, you might want to change your nickname.
To do so, click your nickname on top of the message input area:

And you're set!
In general, Lingr respects your data and leaves it just as you typed it. But there are a few things that Lingr will convert for you automatically.
Images, YouTube videos, MP3s, and pasted multi-line text are automatically inserted directly into the chat. Just paste in the URL and Lingr will take care of the rest.
More information on how inserting multimedia works:
In case you have image or audio files locally but you don't have a place to upload, you might want to try localhostr. The extension of your original file will be preserved, so it can be embedded directly into Lingr.
You can use simple emoticons. Please note that you have to put a space before or after the emoticon, if you want it to appear in the middle of a line.
| Emoticon | What you type | |
|---|---|---|
| Smile | :) or :-) | |
| Wink | ;) or ;-) | |
| Laugh | :D or :-D | |
